This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Five special groups were reviewed in this unit. Beginners, Individual (1 to 1), Young Learners (2 to 16 years), Business English, and Monolingual vs. Multilingual are the specific groups. With the mono vs. multi-lingual I found it interesting that with the monolingual it was an advantage when they had common difficulties, but for the multilingual it is a disadvantage because of the various L1's. It was reassuring to know that it is not necessary to be an expert in a client's business language; but only to be an expert in English. Clearly, acknowledging the individuals in each class is an important teaching technique, along with plenty of affirmation and acknowledgement of a student's efforts.
