As the title suggest, Unit 4 focuses on ?The Present Tenses?. There?s a brief history of the tense system, followed by a breakdown of the forms; Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous. Within each tense there?s also the affirmative, negative and question form and each has important rules to follow according to the usage. While this comes as second nature to native English speakers its important to provide a clear and justified explanation of the rules to non native speakers. The most easiest way would be to create graphs in which the students are able to visualize the forms change throughout the tenses. Having the students perform interview or miming activities where they are forced to ask and answer within the target language is a good way to activate these grammatical principals. Also, making sure they are aware of the regular and contracted form will improve their fluency. The real challenge for the students as well as teacher, is remembering the difference and definition of tenses.
