This unit focused on class management, from using the more obvious physical structure of the classroom to create a good learning environment to how the teacher should behave in order to create a student-teacher relationship that is conducive to learning. This is particularly important because I think it is one of the most seemingly common sense approaches to teaching but that actually happens to be the least intuitive. I find it interesting that while education is going through a major reform, where conventional approaches to education are being questioned, you still find organizations that favor this method. For instance, one of the stricter policies in my English-teaching organization is for the teacher to never sit, except for student presentations. I have always found this policy detrimental in other activities like reading and in establishing a good rapport with adult students who might benefit, more often than not, with a more relaxed learning environment. Particularly because behavior problems are rarely an issue.
