This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The lesson focused on two of the four basic language skills, reading and listening. These skills are also known as receptive skills. They are useful for comprehending unknown language as well as successfully understanding text without knowing each used word. In order to use receptive skills successfully, the teacher must choose topics that interest the student and gets them engaged with the lesson. The material must be suitable for the the level of students and the teacher must make an effort to learn the interests of their students. It is also necessary to pre-teach unknown words or sentence structures in order to avoid problems that may arise during the lesson. It is best if the teacher uses a variety of material in order to keep interest high for students who may not enjoy certain topics and also to practice more skills that can focus on reading and listening. I believe that the most important thing to remember is the final step, which is using activate stages that flow from the text. These activities are what will truly allow the student to fully understand the material and be able to utilize it in future lessons.
