This unit's focus is on the problems that may arise with the first lesson and some of the ways to avoid them. It gives an overview on what to do when embarking on the first lesson in order to establish rapport/working relationship with the learners. I have learned about the various activities that can be employed such as a questionnaire, tell us about yourself, etc, in order to build that classroom relationship. Additionally, teachers must be mindful of the different learning levels and the various ways of compensating so that no learner is left behind. One of the techniques that can be used is to pair a stronger learner with a weaker one. And last, I learned not to be offended when learners used their native language. They do so in order to explain something to another student or they just are not able to express it in the English language.
