This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 11 was a very informative presentation on how to practically apply some of the teaching skills learned earlier in the course. With the ESA methodology used, we are given ideas on how to assist student with both receptive and productive skills. Receptive skills include reading and listening and productive skills include speaking and writing. It is very important to use material which is both interesting and able to be understood by the students. In choosing exercises and material the teacher can choose from authentic or inauthentic material based on the skill level of the students. This unit was helpful in highlighting potential problems that might be encountered in the classroom, and helpful to refer back to if any of the issues started to appear in a class. It would be prudent to include notes in your lesson plan for any of these problems that you expect might come up in a class, in order to be prepared and handle them before they become too much of an issue. I am also aware that dealing with potential problems will become easier the more experience I gain. The most important thing is being prepared for what might happen and being calm and quick to deal with it.
