This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 19 provided a lesson on teaching special groups of students and was very enlightening. The first part of the lesson addressed teaching beginners. It's important to note that not all beginners are equal- even beginners can be on different levels concerning English exposure and motivation. Teaching beginners requires educators to use certain techniques and psychology in order to engage and effectively teach students. Some of these skills include careful control and consideration of your own language, lessons, and instructions. They also involve keeping students as engaged as possible and encouraging the use of English in the classroom. The unit addresses the possible problems to be encountered teaching beginners and offers ways to manage them. This unit also covers teaching individual students and business English students, two groups that hadn't been discussed much in the course so far. Teaching individual students requires adapting activities to still be engaging and interesting with only two participants. The unit outlines numerous great activity ideas. This unit was very helpful in understanding the numerous different types of students/groups an educator can encounter in TEFL.
