This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed conditional sentences and the different levels of the hypothetical. Zero being something that will certainly happen 'if' something else happens, first being more conditional something 'may' happen if something else happens, then second being more hypothetical and unlikely such as what someone would do if they won the lottery and then finally the third which is even more unlikely as it involves something that a person would of had to do in the past like study harder in order to pass an exam (which they did not pass). It highlighted, for me, the difficultly of this concept for learners of English to cope with as it is very abstract and gave good ideas of how to bring those delicate differences out with exercises. The other part of the lesson discusses reported speech. Again a very subtle language point but one that can be easily mixed up with a learner of English. It discussed how the tenses change when the speech is reported and also the pronouns and the time. It also suggested good practical ways to bring this out in the students by using role play. I particularly liked the arguing people and having them be a mediator, I can see that being a fun activity in the class.
