This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit was one of the longest so far and covered a lot of areas having to do with pronunciation. It covered intonation and stress, common ways sounds are joined together in the english language, the phonemic alphabet, as well as where and how sounds are made in the mouth and throat. There are numerous aspects to teach when teaching pronunciation - a lot of areas that can be focused on to encourage students on how to alter their pronunciation to sound more natural. Techniques for teaching were discussed and include such things as humming or singing, drawing the directions of stress on the board, drawing diagrams of the mouth (to demonstrate how sounds are made), tongue twisters, and using your own mouth as demonstration. However, it is important to always end on the correct pronunciation when demonstrating so the students know the correct pronunciation - this point was reinforced throughout this chapter.
