There are many reasons for teachers to evaluate students before, and throughout the year. You can use placement test to see where a student should be placed so that it is not too easy or hard for the student. Also, diagnostic test can be used at the beginning of the year to see what the students already know; this is done so the teacher knows how to plan future lessons so the teacher does not waste time on what the students may already know and what to focus on more. Progress test can let the teacher and students know how much they have learned and what they still need to work on. Finally, practice test can be useful to prepare for an exam. Students take English lessons for many reasons but the primary reason is for work and studies purposes. Doctors and other professionals are required to pass the IELTS or TOEFL before they are allowed to work in English speaking countries. Also schools abroad, such as the U.S., require students to pass certain test like the IELTS or TOEFL to be admitted into the university or college of their choosing. Lastly, immigration purposes is another reason a student might take an English course.
