TESOL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - TEFL Video Journal - Week 2
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit was helpful for understanding what does it mean to be a good teacher, what qualities you should have to achieve your goal and inspire your students. The most important, in my opinion, that students shall be encouraged by your lessons to learn more about the new language and its culture. A good teacher must find a balance between taking control of the class and letting students to work independently. A teacher wears many hats in the classroom ? organizer, assessor, prompter, etc. ? even though I am in my seventh year as a teacher, I was very surprised to read about so many different hats I?m wearing each day. I?ve never really thought of myself as a ?Facilitator? but that?s one of the many things I do. It?s very difficult sometimes to withdraw from a lesson or activity. Part of teaching is letting students make mistakes; it?s how we learn. Many teachers want to swoop in and correct any mistakes, but then the student will never really learn the lesson being taught. Reading through these different roles was an excellent reminder to me of what kinds of roles and responsibilities I have to my students each day. The teaching-learning process is either a success or a failure depending on both the teacher and student's ability to understand and play their roles well. Even though the student has a role to play, the greater role in the process is the teacher's.Motivation is a key item in the teaching-learning process irrespective of the level. Also considering that the learners are not environmentally favored to know English, the teacher must always encourage learners and give them hope. A TEFL should pay more attention on his students than on himself. I learned the teaching strategies to be use to improve in teaching.
