Bad Vs Badly English Grammar Teaching Tips - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL-TESOL Courses

In this video we explain the difference in using "bad" and "badly". The key difference is that 'bad' is used as an adjective and 'badly' as an adverb. Therfore, 'bad' describes that something is not good, while 'badly' refers to something that is done in a bad manner, harmfully or in correctly. A good example sentence for 'bad' would be "Jenny had a car accident today. This is bad". Let's look at an example for 'badly': "Austin behaved badly". I'm sure you'll never confuse the two words again. Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that...  [Read more]

This was all good review on phonetics and pronunciation in English; it's easy to forget how we pronounce words differently in everyday speech vs. how we write them. I think I would personally rather incorporate pronunciation on sort of an as you go basis, paired with vocabulary and speaking activities. One thing I wish this unit might have covered more is how to teach pronunciation, even of simple sounds, to young learners,...  [Read more]

It was good to see the stark differences between the good lesson and the bad lesson. Although the bad example is taken to the extreme, there were some points that I had not considered particularly bad until now. For example, stating that a particular point is easy. I thought stating something is easy is a good prompt for a student not to over think and give the simplest answer. Now I can...  [Read more]

In the first lesson ' the bad lesson' the teacher had a really bad attitude and was very arrogant about how easy the content he was teaching was, he had many bad habits such as reading a book while the students were doing their work, not praising the students for their efforts, not attempting to explain concepts in a different manner when students didn't...  [Read more]

The demonstration video #1 was some what disturbing to me. The teacher was making me feel very uncomfortable. Especially, when he said \"Can and could are the same\". You really need to engage in the students first. Although the first video was an extreme version of a bad teacher, I can still see how some teachers can easily make similar mistakes from the first video. I would think it is very difficult to plan a lesson let alone engage them. Smiling, staying positive, and speaking slowly goes a long way. Video two helps to show that being welcoming is very important. ...  [Read more]

Me Vs I English Grammar Teaching Tips - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL-TESOL Courses

In this video we take a look at the difference between "me" and "I". While they are often used without a problem in normal sentences, they are often used incorrectly in certain situations. For example, in the sentence "can you send the report to Ian and I" the use of "I" is incorrect. It should be "can you send the report to Ian and me" The reason for this is that "I" is a subject pronoun and ?me" is an object pronoun. If you remove Ian from the sentence, it becomes clear that the use of "I" is wrong. You would not say ?can you send the report to I" but you would say "can you send the report to me?". This is an easy trick to see which of the two is the correct one. Watch the video and give it a try. Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their...  [Read more]

I still find the different \"Activate\" and \"study\" phase differentiation confusing, and don't exactly see how the classes were separated. Clearly the same teacher teaching in a different manner had a profound affect on his students. It is a great reminder that attitude is key. It showed how attitude and being prepared can have a huge impact on how a class is run. The bad example showed things a teacher shouldn't do, such as: repeat the same thing over when it is clear students do not understand, not demonstrating or giving examples, and only giving criticism. In the second video, the teacher immediately greets his students, introduces himself, and learns their names. This engages the students,...  [Read more]
