This unit describes the different types of course materials one can use while teaching a class. There are course books, created materials and authentic materials. Course books are advantageous because they give a guided syllabus, however they can be predictable and boring for the students. Created materials are a good resource because they allow for different activities and can be graded to the level of students, but require extra work on the teacher's part. Finally, authentic materials are beneficial because they give the students a real world approach to language, but might add confusion in that the students might not have a pre-existing knowledge of specific vocabulary and concepts.
