This unit details appropriate ways to teach vocabulary, grammar and language functions. When looking at vocabulary, the teacher must consider varying factors such as the appropriacy to the students and task at hand, frequency and teachability. With grammar, the students need to know the meaning, use, forms and patterns as well as the differences in spoken and written form.
Language functions include inviting, refusing, disagreeing, agreeing, suggesting, etc. In teaching language functions, activation is key. Therefore, a boomerang or patchwork ESA lesson plan may be most effective. The students should try using these concepts in regular speech, so a role play would be a good activity for the activation stage.
