This unit is devoted to the parts of speech. I enjoyed going through the rules as they helped me to systematize the knowledge. In case of 'transitive' and 'intransitive' verbs I learned that some verbs can play either role depending on how they are used. I wish I had such brief explanation before. Usually the Grammar Guides are so elaborate. I am excited that upon the completion of my study I will be able to explain the basics of English Grammar in a simpler way. What I particularly appreciated is that the authors listed some tools of getting students used to the conventions, for instance, the description of the Adverb Game. One more comment ? going through the introductory part to this unit I was delighted to read that we (teachers) are not expected to know every possible grammar rule. Sometimes I worry a lot about making a mistake, or not being able to explain the rule. However, knowing that it may happen to other teachers will make me more confident. If such situation happens I will promise students to check the Grammar Reference textbook and provide the answer later.
