Should I get a TEFL or TESOL certification?

Upon enrolling in a TEFL or TESOL certification program with ITTT, you have the liberty to select the acronym you wish to have displayed on your certificate, be it TEFL or TESOL. These terms are widely used interchangeably within the realm of English language teaching. However, if you have a specific location in mind for work, conducting a modest investigation into the prevailing usage of the two acronyms can be worthwhile. If job postings in your chosen destination predominantly seek TEFL-qualified teachers, opting for that acronym would align well, and vice versa if TESOL certificates are more commonly requested. I have identified that conditionals (zero, first, second, third, mixed) and reported speech are two topics that ESL learners tend to struggle with. The difficulty remains, on one hand, that we are not conscious of which conditional to use according to the situation; for instance, when being in the middle of a conversation and trying to have a word with a child, we commonly use the first conditional exclusively, without considering that it may be more appropiate to take...  [Read more]

Too much planning too makes lessons rather rigid and stop the teacher being flexible to the needs of the learners. It is difficult for inexperienced teachers to be as flexible as this would require. Good teachers are expected to let students decide what to do in the class, however inexperienced teachers would find it difficult in conducting a lesson in such a way, because they...  [Read more]
