TESOL Videos - How to Pronounce 'INCULCATE' - English Pronunciation
In this episode, we cover the pronunciation of the word "inculcate". This word is a verb and describes the act of teaching something through frequent repetitions. The word can be traced back to the Latin "inculcare", meaning "to tread on."
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Unit 17 expounded on a variety of different teaching aids ranging from things that would be provided by the school; chalk/whiteboards, overhead projectors, course books, photocopiers. To materials that the teacher would need to create or produce for the classroom; visual aids, video/audio devices or clips, worksheets. From what I can tell from the Unit, a variety of dictionaries may need to be brought in by the teacher as a source for the students to use for independent study or projects, this need extends to procuring extra grammar books in both English and the local language. The activity suggested for the movie clips, where half of a pair of students watches the clip and has to tell their partner about what they saw to answer questions. I can see this as a form of comprehension evaluation. Being able to read the English subtitles and connect it to body language, and communicate it in English to their partner, as well as understanding what is being told to them in English about something they have not seen, and forming questions. The exercise covers receptive and productive skills, and if I do not use it as a evaluation, it could also be used as an Activate activity for a pronunciation unit. Technology is becoming more widespread, and I would like to incorporate it into my lessons as often as possible because I think students are more likely to stay interested. As mentioned in the Unit though many areas of the world do not have the same access to technology as others. Must be taken into account and adapted for whichever region I find myself in.
