TESOL Videos - How to Pronounce 'LIBERTINE' - English Pronunciation
In this episode, we cover the pronunciation of the word "libertine". This word is a noun and either refers to a freethinker in religious matters or someone who disregards morals and leads a dissolute life. The word comes from the Latin word libertus, which referred to a slave who become a free man.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In this unit we learn about teaching a new language through vocabulary, grammar and functions. There are four important things when teaching a new language to students, students need to do and know the following; be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it?s constructed and be able to practice and produce it. When teaching vocabulary the following aspects are important; selecting the vocabulary, what students need to know and what techniques to use when teaching vocabulary. When teaching grammatical structures the techniques one use for presenting and practising language structures are very important, and this is of course determined by the level of the students and the syllabus in use. Language also consists of functions, when teaching language functions it includes areas such as inviting, refusing, agreeing and disagreeing, suggesting etcetera. The kind of language used also plays a role, for example; informal, formal, tentative or technical. I have learnt that not all lessons will focus on all three aspects of vocabulary, grammar and functions. Sometimes lessons will focus on introducing, or it will be specifically focused on just one are. I have also learnt which approach is more commonly used with which area, for example, that the ?straight arrow? ESA approach is used when teaching grammar and vocabulary and the ?boomerang? or ?patchwork? ESA structures are used with more functional-based lessons. I have also learnt that as a teacher I should help the students to understand and to use their receptive vocabulary.
