TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 11

In this TEFL video journal entry, Chantelle talks about unit 11 of her online course. Unit 11 deals with the two receptive skills reading and listening. The unit discusses the different reasons we have for reading or listening and outlines the different ways we do this such as skimming, scanning etc. The unit also outlines ways to overcome problems students may have with reading and listening and provides a sample receptive skills lesson plan.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

I feel that I have a better grasp of the different parts of speech. In school I rarely got a satisfying explanation of the many roles each part can play and never was a clear explanation of the differences given. I don't remember learning about gerunds and was quite pleased to learn something new. This unit has been very useful. I have learnt techniques for teaching vocabulary and how to use a straight arrow approach in planning a lesson. In the grammatical structures part I learnt that a patchwork lesson is most effective and when teaching language functions, role plays can be very useful. In this unit i have learnt all the aspects needed to have a good class management starting from the body language to the kind of activities and the pros and cons of each of them and also the classroom arrangement and the factors that need to be considered to have a successful classroom environment
