While studying for this degree you could be earning between 35,000 and 50,000 baht every month, the typical range for native-speaking foreign teachers in Thailand. Please note that a non-immigrant ‘B’ visa is required for a work permit in Thailand. The paperwork for this visa is usually provided by your employer.

Already teaching without a degree? Not a problem! The course will not affect your work commitments. The only full-time commitment you need to give us is for three one-month intensive periods In March, April and October. This will mean you should not have to miss a day of work.

Course Fees:

The total cost of the program is $US 4,000 (£*) over three years.

The breakdown of the payment is as follows:

• $US 500 (£*) initial deposit upon acceptance into the program
• 35 monthly payments of US$ 100

How does the course work?

Thongsook College has 15 weeks of scheduled classes per year. The first ten weeks will run from the first Monday of March through to the second week of May. The remaining four weeks will take place in October.

The scheduled classes will make up 84 of the required credits for the course. These 84 credits can be obtained in 28, week long, face to face classes. As Thongsook offers 15 weeks of classes per year, over three years, this means you only have to attend two-thirds of the classes over a three year period. During the years scheduled classes, we will offer as many of the classes as possible at different times, meaning you can attend classes you may have previously missed.

To summarize, students need to attend 28 weeks of classes, and each class is one week.  Thongsook offers 15 weeks per year, and this flexibility means that students can attend as many as they wish, allowing them to complete the course around their own schedule. Taking into account normal vacation times, most people will complete this degree within three years.

The remaining 36 units do not require face-to-face classes at Thongsook College. These will be obtained by the following:

• Your current 120-hour TESOL certificate and 29 units of introduction to TESOL: 6 credits
• One term of teaching practice and journals: 6 credits
• General Science: 6 credits
• Language Acquisition Research Paper: 6 credits
• Phonology, Morphology and Syntax Research Paper: 6 credits
• TESOL Methodology Research Paper: 6 credits

Course Eligibility:

Candidates must have one or more of the following:

• Must be a native speaker and passport holder from the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.
• Have a TOEFL score of at least 550.
• Be currently employed as an English teacher in Thailand.

Candidates must also be able to live and adapt to living in a foreign country, get along with other and behave in a manner acceptable to the local way of life.

3. 3. We will send documentation in order to receive your ED visa for Thailand. You should take this documentation to your nearest Thai embassy or consulate to acquire your visa.

Q - Will this course give me a legal visa?

A – Yes. You will be in possession of an ED visa for as long as you remain a student in this program. Unlike other visas obtained through Thai language schools, you will not be required to renew your visa every 90 days, just once per year. Please note that a B visa is technically required to be employed within Thailand.

Q – Who will be my course instructors?

A – All our instructors have at least a Masters degree in TESOL or related subject and are fluent English speakers. These include Dr. Vinit (Tony) Phinit-Akson and Hemanta Raj Dahal who hold as MA TESOL from Leeds University and is the current president of NELTA (Nepalese English Language Teaching Association).

Q – How does this degree compare with US university degrees?

A – Based on the Thailand Commission of Higher Education, these degrees have fewer General Education credit hours (30) but more hours within the major (90+).

Q – Will I get any vacation time?

A – The course is very flexible. You can make up the required hours over a three-year period, longer if necessary. This means you are sure to be able to take off the time you need for vacation.

Q – Is the degree internationally recognized?

A - It most certainly is! The degree will fulfill the requirements to obtain a full work permit in Thailand to work as an English teacher. We also contact UCLA and Harvard University to enquire whether the Thongsook BA TESOL degree would be acceptable for admission to graduate school. Both schools confirmed to us that it would be accepted as a legitimate degree.

You will be proudly able to confirm to anybody who asks that you have earned a degree.

If you choose to teach English in other countries you should have no problems. The only exception to this so far is Saudi Arabia, which requires all applicants have a degree attained in their home country.
