This unit is about teaching productive skills in ESL lessons. It introduces to the different reasons people communicate with each other, explains the difference between accuracy and fluency based activities and gives example for each of them, including games. I also learnt about reasons why students might be not so encouraged to communicate and gives tips how they can get motivated to as well as guidelines to follow when holding speaking activities in class. Furthermore this unit explains what to focus about in writing activities.Unit 17 was packed full with useful information on the various types of teaching equipment and the pros and cons of their usage. It also provided wonderful information on teaching aids and resources. I chose a DVD role-play on Summer Vacation as it was amusing and provided ample opportunity for student participation and interest in the engage phase (pre-listening stage) of the lesson. It also provided excellent key vocabulary and grammar points for the study phase, plus invited open discussion by students in the activate stage.
