I’ve gained an understanding of how linguists have taken the english language, analyzed it, and broken it down into countless categories, grammatical constructions, and labels in order to attempt to outline the patterns of the english language. I don’t normally think about why I word a certain sentence a particular way (i.e. something I did in the past versus something I’ll do in the future) because I just learned these variations intrinsically. This course exposed me to how the extensive structures of the english language are broken down into grammatical terms which will assist me in planning thorough, digestible lessons to non-native english speakers.
I will also employ the ESA lesson structure. As I became more familiar with this lesson plan format, I realized that many of my previous teaching efforts actually employed engage, study, and activate segments even though I did not apply
this terminology to my teaching style. The deliberate application of this structure to my planning will maximize my teaching effectiveness.
