TEFL training is important to teaching english to students. I have gained valuable information to help me become a better teacher in the ESL classroom. I would like to explain what I have gained through this course and how I plan to activate what I have learned. First, I have a teaching theory. The ESA theory is important and balanced for the ESL classroom. It is important to engage students in education. Therefore, there needs to be an organized study phase for students to learn about a topic. Afterwards, the students must practice what they have learned. I plan to use variations of the ESA teaching theory in order to allow students to be productive in their language learning. This theory helps students become active learners in the classroom. Furthermore, I have learned how to lesson plan. Many weeks, I have been able to create and practice making lessons for classes. It has been very helpful. I enjoy finding ways to be creative in the lesson plan. I also, have discovered I will need to be very flexible with my time and the material. Some activities will take longer and others shorter. It is good to have extra material for each lesson. Through lesson planning I can be flexible and adapt according to what activities work with the students language and age level. The grammar portion of the TEFL training has been valuable. I have learned how I can explain and teach parts of grammar during the study phases. I have also been able to learn how to target activate activities that are fun and natural for students to practice grammar. Last, classroom management is important for all classrooms. I realized how I can build good rapport with the students through eye contact, gestures, and using my voice. I learned about teacher talking time versus student talking time. I definitely do not want to dominate the class for useless TTT. I want the students to be able to practice speaking with fellow classmates, so pair work and group work is important. By maintaining good classroom management, I hope to create a balanced learning environment. This course has been rewarding for me as a teacher. It has taught me how to effectively teach through the ESA teaching method. Lesson planning is enjoyable and creative. Teaching grammar is valuable for me to present to students with natural practice activities. Finally, good classroom management provides a safe learning environment for all students. I would recommend to anyone who wants the experience to teach english to invest in this course.
