This unit gives an overview of conditionals and reported speech. It covers 5 main types of conditional sentences and also gives teaching tips for these 5 types. It makes the point that conditionals are very easy to confuse. In particular, the first and second conditional and the fourth and mixed conditionals are frequently mixed up because they have similarities. There are many ways to teach conditionals including breaking conditional sentences in half and having students match them back together, or creating a imaginary chain of events as a class among others. The unit also gave attention to reported speech, another area of English that can be easily confused and hard to master, since there are so many changes in sentence structure depending on what is being reported and by whom. It suggested many useful activities to help students learn this including reading and creating news reports, playing games where one student acts as an intermediary between two others, and reporting verb exercises.
