This unit emphasized the importance of teaching pronunciation. The first half of the unit explained techniques on how to teach intonation and stress in speech. The unit identified the two types of intonation (rise/fall and fall/rise) and when to use them in everyday conversation. The unit also explained which syllables stress should be used with different types of words. The second half of the unit concentrated on phonetic speech by providing the International Phonetic Alphabet and diagrams of how sounds are made with the mouth. The unit additionally explained how different sounds are articulated with different speech organs. In conclusion, I am now more aware on how vital pronunciation is to a English classroom and am more confident in my teaching phonology skills.
