Unit 5 focuses on classroom management and techniques to administer successful lessons. The technique topics include appropriate eye contact, useful gestures, speaking styles, grouping options, and using student’s names in a helpful manner. It also discusses potential seating arrangements based on a variety of factors, writing on the board in a way that limits the teacher’s back to the students, the advantages and disadvantages of teacher talking time verses student talking time and dealing with potential disciplinary issues. Finally, it discusses different techniques of giving instructions and building rapport. I feel like this section has given me a deeper insight into successfully leading a class and opened my eyes to how different techniques can positively or negatively affect a classroom.
