A very interesting view of some more complex grammar terms, Unit 18 takes a look at modal auxiliary verbs, passive and active voices, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs. Modal Auxiliary verbs are such words as may, could, have to, might, would, and so on, which are used before another verb in its base form. They are used to express such things as obligation, polite requests, ability, permission or prohibition, or to give advice. An example would be: \"Could you please bring me a glass of water.\" This is a polite request. Also, \"May I come in?\" would be to ask permission. These types of sentences can be express in either present/future or in the past. An example in the present/future: \"I would rather stay home tonight.\" And in the past: \"I would rather have stayed home last night.\
