Course books have advantages and disadvantages, and consist of a set of materials, including teacher's book and student's book, workbook but also audio tapes and other materials.
Based on the appropriacy of the course book for the specific students, the teacher must devise if, and how to use it.
In addition to the course book, classes can and should be supplemented with other materials, chosen by the teacher specifically for the class. These can be authentic materials, more interesting and more capable of building confidence; and created materials, made by the teacher and graded to the level of the students.
Analyzing which course book to choose, the teacher must take into consideration a set of factors, such as price, availability, methodology, difficulty, syllabus and topics.
