Unit 3 lists and describes the most popular methods and techniques in EFL teaching that most closely imitate natural language acquisition. I particularly appreciate how this unit is structured. We first become familiar with each methodology, including their positive and negative aspects that have sparked debate as to which produces the best results, before being introduced to the most effective method by Jeremy Harmer (called “ESAâ€) that incorporates the best parts of all methodologies for an optimal approach. My favorite lesson of this unit is differentiating between mistakes and errors, and that even though correcting students is a skill that takes time and experience, to know there are positive sides of errors is quite reassuring for this new teacher.
