This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the productive skills of speaking and writing. The unit first covered speaking and the difference between accuracy and fluency activities, both of which are important when learning how to speak in a new language. Correcting for accuracy can make the student's feel bad if done too much; finding a balance between accuracy and fluency activities--when the student's can speak more freely and creatively--is very important. The writing section noted some possible issues that may arise, especially if the native language uses a different alphabet. I then learned a number of useful activities that can help student's learn writing, specifically creative writing. I majored in this in college, and so I am very excited to implement it into my lesson plans.
