Unit three analyzed the methods that have been used to teach students a foreign language and overall what method our program felt was the most useful based on certain criteria. Students need to discover language as much as possible and be able to use the language in an open environment with others as well as have teacher involvement to help guide and model correct form and pronunciation. There were methods like Grammar-translation or Audio-linguistic which could successfully meet a few of the criteria of effective language learning but not as completely as the ESA model which was developed by Jeremy Harmer and its parts are Engage, Study and Activate. The rest of the unit covered each stage and what it was comprised of as well as activities for each stage.
