This is the unit about course books and lesson materials. The unit mainly deals with two aspects of that topic. First, it describes the differences between authentic material and created material. Second, it explains the advantages and disadvantages of using course books. I teach English at both primary and secondary levels –most of the material I use at primary school is created while I there is always a course books at the secondary level. I couldn’t say that using one kind of material is by itself better than using the other one. Both have advantages and disadvantages, and being aware of the strengths and weaknesses of one kind of material over the other, such as this unit shows, is very important when planning your classes.
