The methodology and techniques used to teach is dependant on the types of classes taught. The motivation and interest level may also differ. For example younger children versus adult learners. Understanding the needs of the students would help in planning our lessons. I like the idea of doing a needs analysis with the adult learners who are seeking to improve their English in their careers. This gives us a better understanding of what the students expect to learn, what their requirements are and which areas they want to improve on. As a multi-lingual person teaching English to a diverse group of students with different native language, it can be a delight to see how English becomes the common language that connects everyone together.
