This unit makes a distinction between the present tenses and the past tenses. It also explains the various types of the past tenses: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Only the verb 'to be' has two forms according to person, that is the form 'was' (used with I, he, she, and it) and the form 'were' (used with you, we, and they). For all other verbs, the form remains the same for all persons. From this unit, I have learnt that the form and the usage of the past tenses in all stages are very important for me as a language teacher as well as my learners in order to avoid errors/mistakes. I have to take great care with the verb 'to be' as it changes with the person in the past simple tense.
