This unit is about course books and lesson materials. Course books are a very emotive issue for many teachers. Some teachers relay on them, while other teachers don not like to use them. The choice of whether or not to use a course book is quiet a complex issue. The materials can be divided into two groups. The first one is authentic materials which include programs, magazines, newspapers, songs, poems, brochures, menus, films on video. The other one is created materials which are usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. Whatâ€™s more, course books have advantages and disadvantages. The four different options for course book use are omit, replace, supplement and adapt.
