Unit 7 discusses the use of vocab which is described as the tree leaves of language. Students need to develop a certain level of vocab in order to get into the language. What vocab one selects is dependent on the teachability, frequency, and usefulness to the students and task. Teaching vocab can be done in a straight arrow esa lesson or patchwork lesson plan. A teacher could introduce this with films, books, pictures, miming, and all sorts of different items related to the vocabulary that needs to be discussed. In the next phase the teacher could use gap fill exercises, cross words, and pronunciation drilling exercises. In the final activate stage small groups, role plays, and debates can fill out the lesson.
