The unit first talks about the pros and cons of both authentic and created materials. Created materials can bet tailored to a students level and to the lesson planned. Authentic materials are taken from real life. They were not designed for teaching english, but are an accurate use of the english language in daily life. They can easily be updated as fads change. The second part of the lesson discussed course books. It noted the plusses and minuses of course books as well as guidelines for analyzing a course book. Most importantly it mentioned that a course book should never be considered complete. A good teacher will always be able to add material that is more topical than in a published course lesson.
