This unit covered the two receptive skills, listening and reading, and how to effectively teach those in a lesson. It is important to keep in mind the two reasons why people read and listen--i.e., for a purpose and for entertainment--but it is also important to realize all of the small factors that go into reading and listening. These include but are not limited to scanning, skimming, and using predictions and deductions. To accurately practice all of these skills, the teacher must choose a text/audio that is interesting to the students that does not overwhelm the class with new vocabulary. I appreciated the detailed list of everything that must be considered when planning a reading/listening lesson.
