This unit separated teaching a new language into two categories, vocabulary and grammar functions, which made it easier to learn since it was not complicated and confused; it was straightforward in describing the two components. I learned that there is a definite difference in approach when the teacher is designing a vocabulary lesson versus when the teacher is designing a language (grammar) function lesson. I noticed that for teaching Language Function (grammar structures), the most common lesson plan designs are Boomerang and Patchwork, as well as straight line ESA. However, for teaching vocabulary the straight line ESA approach is more common.
