Teachers need to be aware of the importance of eye contact, gesture and voice, as well as knowing and using students' names. Tips such as using names at the end, rather than beginning of questions are helpful.
Classroom arrangement options included orderly rows, sircles and horseshoes, and separate tables and suggestions for which were most appropriate for various activities and situations. The teachers position in the classroom varies upon the activity and suggestions were made for increasing effective communication. These included: Giving individual attention; Teacher and student talking time,
Giving Instructions; Establishing rapport; and Maintaining Discipline.
This guidance seemed to be well founded upon experience and can be useful for new teachers preparing for the job, as well as for helping more experienced teachers become more effective.
