This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered 'troubleshooting'. It was a short unit which gave solutions to potential situations or problems. For example it gave advice for conducting a first lesson and divided this into two situations; firstly where the students don't know eachother; and secondly an already existing group. Each of these situations can have positives and negatives and it was useful to have ideas for establishing rapport and finding out about the students. I liked the idea of the board game 'tell us about' whereby the student rolls a dice and lands on a square and has to talk about the topic on that square.
This unit also covered larger classes and solutions for teaching large classes for example doing group work and pairing up the stronger and weaker students when there may be different levels. It is important however to not let the stronger student dominate and the weaker student to just observe. The unit also gave solutions to students speaking in their native language and reluctant students.
