Unit 16 is about teaching and learning receptive skills which are reading and listening. It is noted that reading and listening are equally important. The unit shows the skills that students may need to get what they want whether it is for reading or listening for a purpose or for entertainment. A good example is skimming which is about quick reading to get the general idea of the text. Other things include a lesson sample and ways how to deal with problems in teaching receptive skills. I find this unit helpful in teaching current event classes. I will definitely use this as a reference.This unit covered the many types of learners as well as age and purpose for learning English.I found the information on business learners to be very insightful.The challenges of adults who are bored or that may have to be there to keep a job. Many different issues concerning motivation with older learners. The needs analysis was particularly helpful in establishing individual goals within a mixed level class. Young learners and their increased activity needs can be met through games, singing and dialog in pairs.This unit was very helpful in sorting the many challenges of varied learners.
