This unit consists of Modals , Phrasal verbs and Passive voice: Modals auxiliary verbs (MAV) are used to add meaning to the main verb-used to express a number of different ideas such as: Obligation,Possibility/Probability, Permission, Ability, Advice. MAV can also be used to express different degrees of formality. (the charts in this sections was very helpful) Passive voice ; there are two voices being used in the English Language : Active and Passive Relative clauses A clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb, there are three categories of clauses: The Independent clause ,The Dependent clause, Relative clause. The relative clause is being introduced by a relative pronoun: who, which, what,whom,that,those etc or there may be no relative pronoun. There are two types of relative clauses defining and non-defining. Phrasal verbs or multi verbs consists of a verb plus one or two particles ( a particle may be a preposition or and adverb, or an adverb plus a preposition ) they operate as one item. There are three basic types of Phrasal verbs: Type 1 (Intransitive, Type 2 Transitive separable , Type 3 Transitive inseparable. This unit has been very helpful to me, clearly explaining the difference between formal and non formal English used in everyday life.
