Wow this was a tough unit! Though I was slightly familiar with the term modal auxiliary, I had forgotten that it referred to words that express so may things! Obligation, permission/prohibition, possibility/probability, ability and advice. And these are words that form the sentence structures we use everyday in order to convey the meaning or subtle degrees of differences in the way we want to communicate. I also learned about the three types of phrasal verbs, which are also all quite similar but convey different meanings when used. The easiest part of the unit for me this time was refreshing my memory about active and passive sentences. I learned a lot about this during my university days. Active sentences put the 'actor' or the subject at the beginning of the sentence and the action following. They are sentences that have a stronger impact and are more interesting to read than passive sentences, which do not focus on the action so much as 'relaying the information' impartial to who or what caused the event to happen.
