This unit covered a large variety of methods and techniques of teaching English as a foreign language. The text went over many different named methods, but the one put into focus is called the ESA Approach, which provides a effective structure that keeps lessons student-centered. I learned a ton of information from this unit, and I took notes to make sure that I will be able to refer back to all of this info in the future a little bit more easily. First of all, I never even knew that student-centered lessons are more effective than their reverse. As a student I always did fairly well with lectures, but I think this still makes sense, because many of my classmates did prefer more participatory structures. Another critical thing I learned here was the importance of the warm-up, the Engage period of a lesson. I can clearly remember how much I enjoyed classes that began with warm-ups when I was a student, and when I enjoyed classes I learned more, so I can certainly attest to the benefits of the ESA framework.
