Unlike the other tenses, the future tense has 7 structures rather than 4. The extra 3 are Be going + Infinitive, Present simple (with future meaning) and Present continuous (with future meaning). This makes it a little more complex for students to understand as it combines 2 tenses and it is easy for the forms to seem similar. However, as long as the forms are followed exactly rather than usage, differentiation is quite logical. This unit gave me a better understanding of all the tenses. The teaching ideas were very useful also. I will be using the diary entry activity in my class soon.The current unit focused on teaching receptive skills: Reading and listening. It articulated the various motives we have for reading and listening, how we read and listen, and the potential difficulties with these receptive skills that come into play for learners of English. I learned that, once again, an important factor in student success is how well the teacher can engage students with topics that interest them. Teaching the necessary vocabulary in order to promote students' receptive skills as well as using authentic versus non authentic texts were also important considerations.
