Although this unit was more difficult for me to understand and learn how to teach I can see the benefits of teaching conditionals and reported speech to English language learners. We are often reporting what we hear people say and native English speakers do not think about how we report the speech. It becomes very complicated when broken down but it is extremely helpful for students to understand how to properly report direct speech and it makes it easier for people to understand them. Miscommunication about times and days often happens when students are not able to express these concepts correctly. Also, learning how to use conditionals can be helpful for casual conversation and small talk. If a student can understand how to use these phrases properly they will be more confident to talk to others and share information about themselves. Understanding the structure of conditionals and reported speech was very helpful in understanding the English language.
