Unit 18 discusses modal auxiliary verbs, the passive voice, phrasal verbs, and relative clauses. Accordingly, modal auxiliary verbs are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb, and they can be used to express many different ideas, such as obligations, possibility/probability, permission/prohibition, ability, advice, etc., e.g., words like, can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't and ought to-- are modal auxiliary verbs. They can also be used to express differing degrees of formality. Unit 18 also discusses the two voices used in English, i.e., the passive voice and the active voice, e.g., my wife chose the wallpaper; and the passive voice, e.g., the wallpaper was chosen by my wife. Unit 18 also discusses the three basic types of phrasal verbs, type 1, Intransitive, type 2, transitive separable, type 3, transitive inseparable, and lastly the unit discussed relative clauses.
