Unit 9 went over the types of materials available to teachers. Authentic materials were compared and contrasted to created materials, especially course books. Authentic materials can be more interesting, but course books offer leveled syllabi and increasing difficulty that incorporates what students have studied thus far. The best solution, in most cases, seems to be having a course book and related materials as a foundation, but being willing to be flexible and break away from the material when students can benefit from a different exercise, activity, or teaching style.This unit describes each of the three present tenses including present simple, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. It points out grammar rules, sentence examples, and some common mistakes that English learners do. As a native English speaker, I'm not familiar with grammar rules, usually whatever sounds right to me is correct with no explanation. Though, this unit really helped me know the different rules on when people are supposed to use which sentence structure. I now feel more prepared to teach English learners the rules for grammar and explain why it is!
