We can divide the teaching of pronunciation in to a three parts: teaching intonation, teaching stress and teaching articulation. Intonation is connected with the volume and the pitch of a sentence. Knowing the intonation of a sentence is essential in understanding implications, feelings and message behind a sentence. A clear knowledge on how a sentence is intonated would allow the listener to give a proper response. While teaching stress, it is as vital to let our students realize that there is no rule on which how a word is stressed in a sentence, as it is denpendent on the implication of the speaker. When our student is more exposed to different vocabularies, they would gradually learn the syllable that should be stressed in a word. The International Phonetic Alphabet is a good tool to help students learn how a word should be articulated. Our studetns can be accquainted with the symbols through different practices in class.
